February 29, 2024 Central & Southern Illinois Solar Update

Our partners at Constellation still have availability for manufacturers in central and southern Illinois interested in procuring solar energy. The good news is that there have been significant positive updates since October when it was announced including a price reduction from previous rates. The Double Black Diamond Solar Project will generate 593MW of energy and has signed up large customers including State Farm, the City of Chicago, and Cook County. However, they have power left and would like to offer it to IMA members who use at least 5,000MWh of energy annually. Previously, customers had to use at least 30,000MWh in order to access the solar farm energy. However, with new state and federal regulations, combined with efforts by large OEMs to decarbonize, we are seeing many small and mid-sized manufacturers who need help meeting these goals. IMA members will not need to negotiate a complicated virtual Power Purchase Agreement; instead, Constellation will enter into a physical PPA with the project while IMA members can sign a simplified retail power agreement.
